I’ve been yarn bombing for a good few years now & in the course of my yarn bombing adventures I’ve always liked to take a lot of photographs of my yarn bombs or any outstanding yarn bombs that I’ve come across in my local neighbourhood. I’ve yarn bombed in Adelaide & Tasmania, in my own front yard & in the park on my street. Yarn bombing has bought me hours of entertainment & a lot of joy. Photographing my yarn bombs has rekindled a love of photography that I had back in my university days. All in all yarn bombing keeps me young & playful, even though it is based on the so called Granny arts of knitting & crochet.Look out for me in 40 years time because I’ll be the Granny with the rainbow coloured walking cane. I will basically yarn bomb anything thats not nailed down, including this money tin.
I LOVE TO KNIT & I’D RATHER YARN BOMB MY GARDEN THAN KNIT A SWEATER. MY MOST RECENT EFFORT IS THE YARN BOMBING OF MY NEW BIRDBATH. I WRAPPED THE BASE IN MULTICOLOURED FINGER KNITTING & SEWED ON SOME CROCHET FLOWERS. MY GARDEN IS QUITE WHIMSICAL AND IT IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. I LOVE TO ADD NEW PLANTS AND STAUES AND TO PHOTOGRAPH MY PROGRESS AS I GO. I HAVE COVERED THE POSTS TO THE ENTRANCE WAY OF MY HOUSE WITH BRIGHTLY KNITTED YARN BOMBS AND FILLED MY GARDEN WITH LOTS OF LITTLE TREASURES AND LOTS OF CACTI AND SUCCULENTS.
I LOVE THIS LITTLE TEA CUP. MY FRIEND CROCHETED IT FOR HER GIRLFRIEND AS A LOVELY GIFT
THIS YARN BOMBED STREET POLE REALLY BRIGHTENS UP PORT ADELAIDE
CRAZY CRAFTERS BADMINTON MADNESS HAT. THIS WAS MADE FOR A COMPETITION WHERE ALL THE HATS WERE MADE FROM RECYCLED JUNK. I LIKE IT BUT IT DIDN’T EVEN GET A PLACING IN THE COMPETITION. OH WELL, WE CAN STILL ENJOY THE PICTURES OF IT ANYWAY
Yarn bombing also known as knit graffiti is a form of anarchic craft that melds traditional knitting and crochet skills with street art and installation art. Yarn bombing is the art of adorning inanimate and often pedestrian objects in colourful knitting or crochet. Poles, lamp posts, street signs and trees are often wrapped in lengths of knitted wool or acrylic yarn. Crochet flowers adorn chain link fences, park benches and bike racks.
Yarn bombing has gained popularity across the world and has begun to attract it’s fair share of media attention. Just type yarn bombing into any internet search engine and a string of blogs, light news articles and colourful pictures will pop up. There are many facebook community pages dedicated to yarn bombing and I recommend liking them as they can post some brilliant photographs of yarn bombing from all over the world.
Yarn bombing bicycles is a creative niche that has sparked the imagination of many crafters. Each year there is an entire street art exhibition dedicated to yarn bombed bikes in Adelaide South Australia.
