I’ve recently welcomed some new followers to my blog and as a welcome I thought it might be fun to post 20 colourful yarn bomb photographs. Each photograph illustrates a different interesting yarn bomb or yarn bombing technique that I have photographed over the past 2 years. Part of the satisfaction of yarn bombing is knitting, crocheting and the act of yarn bombing with friends. The 2nd satisfying part of yarn bombing for me is photographing colourful yarn bomb objects, including trees, grape vines, park benches, bicycles and more.
My friend Sarah-Jane Cooke http://roustaboutart.wordpress.com has been involved in many of these great yarn bombs and we have been working together yarn bombing for about 2 years. We became friends around 8 years ago when we ran a market stall together selling our hand crafted gifts and toys. Crafting and yarn bombing are fun and a great way to make friends. I’ve been yarn bombing for a good few years now & in the course of my yarn bombing adventures I’ve always liked to take a lot of photographs of my yarn bombs or any outstanding yarn bombs that I’ve come across in my local neighbourhood. I’ve yarn bombed in Adelaide & Tasmania, in my own front yard & in the park on my street. Yarn bombing has bought me hours of entertainment & a lot of joy. Photographing my yarn bombs has rekindled a love of photography that I had back in my university days. All in all yarn bombing keeps me young & playful, even though it is based on the so called Granny arts of knitting & crochet.Look out for me in 40 years time because I’ll be the Granny with the rainbow coloured walking cane. I will basically yarn bomb anything thats not nailed down, including this money tin.
I LOVE TO KNIT & I’D RATHER YARN BOMB MY GARDEN THAN KNIT A SWEATER. MY MOST RECENT EFFORT IS THE YARN BOMBING OF MY NEW BIRDBATH. I WRAPPED THE BASE IN MULTICOLOURED FINGER KNITTING & SEWED ON SOME CROCHET FLOWERS. MY GARDEN IS QUITE WHIMSICAL AND IT IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. I LOVE TO ADD NEW PLANTS AND STAUES AND TO PHOTOGRAPH MY PROGRESS AS I GO. I HAVE COVERED THE POSTS TO THE ENTRANCE WAY OF MY HOUSE WITH BRIGHTLY KNITTED YARN BOMBS AND FILLED MY GARDEN WITH LOTS OF LITTLE TREASURES AND LOTS OF CACTI AND SUCCULENTS.
I have just purchased this stunning little Singer sewing machine. The machine is solid steel, works perfectly & was manufactured in Scotland in 1940. It is a hand crank machine, which makes it more than just an awesome piece of machinery, it makes it carbon neutral, as I won’t need to plug it in to do my sewing. The sewing machine is heavy duty & sews thick canvas, leather & denim. Forget the plastic machinery of today & rock out with an old fashioned singer! These models are still very popular in developing countries such as India, where electricity is not always available.
I BOUGHT THE LITTLE SCOOTER FROM A LITTLE CHARITY SHOP BEHIND A CHURCH. THE LITTLE OLD MAN BEHIND THE COUNTER ASKED ME IF I WAS BUYING IT FOR MY DAUGHTER, WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT I DON’T HAVE KIDS & I WAS PLANNING TO YARN BOMB IT, HE JUST LOOKED AT ME BLANKLY & ASKED MY DAUGHTERS NAME. I DIDN’T WANT TO DISAPPOINT HIM SO I TOLD HIM THAT HER NAME IS TABITHA & THAT THE SCOOTER IS HER CHRISTMAS PRESENT. HE SEEMED AWFULLY HAPPY, SO I GUESS I SAID THE RIGHT THING.
I THINK THE LITTLE TRIKE BIKE WAS MY NEIGHBOURS CHRISTMAS PRESENT A FEW YEARS AGO, BECAUSE I FOUND IT BROKEN & FILTHY LYING IN A HEAP OF HARD RUBBISH ON THE FOOTPATH OUTSIDE OF THEIR HOUSE. I RESCUED THE BIKE FROM THE TRASH HEAP, STUCK THE BROKEN HANDLE BARS BACK ON & YARN BOMBED IT, WITH FLOURO KNITTING.
THIS IS A TREE IN MY LOCAL SHOPPING DISTRICT, NEAR A GREAT CAFFE.
ABOVE IS THE BUSH GATE AT MY MOTHERS HOUSE IN TASMANIA, I GOT BORED ONE DAY WHEN I WAS VISITING & DECIDED TO KNIT A BIT OF BLING FOR THE GATE.
I LOVE THESE LITTLE TREE’S IN MY MUM’S FRONT PADDOCK ON BRUNY ISLAND IN TASMANIA. I’VE YARN BOMBED IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA & TASMANIA & NEXT I’D LOVE TO DO SOME YARN BOMBING OVERSEAS.
AS AN AVID YARN BOMBER AND CAT LOVER, I DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO COMMEMORATE MY LOVE OF KNITTING, FELINES & RENEGADE NANA CRAFT, WITH THE ABOVE TATTOO. I’VE BEEN KNITTING EVER SINCE I SAT BEHIND THE COUNTER OF MY MUMS CRAFT SHOP, AS A LITTLE GIRL. IN MY EARLY 30’S I DISCOVERED YARN BOMBING, THE PERFECT MIX OF TRADITIONAL CRAFT AND MODERN DAY STREET ART.
